In 2025, South Seas was honoured to provide international professional electrician training services for the Simandou C3 Mineral Processing Plant EPC Project in Guinea, jointly developed by Changsha Nonferrous Metals Corporation and Rio Tinto. In addition, South Seas also delivered specialised electrician training for the Simandou EPC3 Diesel Power Plant EPC Project. These training programs aimed to equip project teams and operational staff with advanced electrical knowledge and practical skills, ensuring the safe and stable operation of electrical systems across both the mining and power plant facilities.

The Simandou C3 Iron Ore Project, located in the Simandou region of Guinea, is one of the world’s most promising undeveloped iron ore assets. Jointly developed by Rio Tinto and Changsha Nonferrous Metals Corporation, the project encompasses mining, mineral processing, and transportation infrastructure, with ore to be transported by rail to port facilities. Due to the scale and technical complexity of the project, teams must be proficient in the operation and maintenance of advanced electrical systems deployed across the site.

Both the C3 Mineral Processing Plant EPC Project and the EPC3 Diesel Power Plant EPC Project involve complex power systems and electrical infrastructure. To support the development and operational readiness of these facilities, South Seas delivered a comprehensive, custom-built training solution focused on upskilling project personnel.

South Seas’ international electrician training program included:

Electrical Safety & Emergency Handling

Instruction on electrical safety procedures, fire prevention, and emergency response techniques, ensuring personnel can operate safely in daily tasks.

Customised Training Courses

Courses tailored to project-specific needs and personnel skill levels, covering both mining and power plant operations.

Hands-On Practical Training

On-site demonstrations and hands-on sessions enabled trainees to gain a deep understanding of the actual operation and maintenance of electrical equipment.

Assessment & Certification

After completing the training, participants underwent skills assessments. Successful trainees received certificates demonstrating their competency in electrical operations and maintenance.

Ongoing Technical Support & Follow-Up Training

South Seas provided continuous technical support to ensure the practical application of training content, along with follow-up training as the project progressed.

This professional training program significantly enhanced the Simandou C3 project team’s technical capabilities in electrical operations and emergency response. It ensured that construction and operation phases could proceed efficiently and safely.

Beyond skill development, the program provided strong assurance for the reliable operation of the mine and power plant’s electrical systems. It also deepened the collaboration between South Seas, Rio Tinto, and Changsha Nonferrous, solidifying the foundation for future cooperation in global mining and energy infrastructure projects.
