In 2025, South Seas was honoured to supply compact substations, overhead line equipment, and associated accessories for the Simandou C3 mining project in Guinea. Jointly developed by Changsha Nonferrous Metals Corporation and Rio Tinto, this project aims to enhance the electrical infrastructure supporting mining operations, ensuring reliable and efficient power distribution across the site.

The Simandou C3 Project is a flagship investment by Rio Tinto in Guinea's western mining region. Covering ore extraction, transportation, and processing, the project requires large-scale upgrades to its power systems to support continuous operation. As a trusted electrical engineering solutions provider, South Seas was responsible for delivering robust, efficient, and environment-adapted power distribution equipment to meet the specific demands of the mining environment.

Scope of Supply

1. Compact Substations (Mine-Grade Prefab Transformers)

Built with high-quality transformers and durable, corrosion-resistant enclosures, specifically engineered for rugged mine conditions.

Designed to handle complex load profiles and adverse environmental factors such as dust, heat, and moisture.

Provide reliable power distribution to mining and processing units, ensuring operational continuity.

2. Overhead Line Equipment

Full suite of components for overhead power transmission within the mine area.

Engineered to withstand challenging terrain and climate, reducing fault frequency and improving power reliability.

Includes poles, insulators, conductors, and fittings for medium-voltage distribution.

3. Auxiliary Components

Including cables, power connectors, switches, and protective devices.

All components fully compliant with international standards (IEC), supporting safe and efficient integration with existing mining infrastructure.

Design, manufacturing, and delivery tailored to meet the technical specifications of the mining site’s power system.

System commissioning and trial support, including on-site assistance with compatibility verification and functional testing.

Ensured seamless integration of equipment into the mine's electrical system, supporting safe, stable, and long-term operation.

This engagement showcases South Seas’ advanced capabilities in supplying electrical infrastructure for large-scale mining developments and deepens the company’s strategic cooperation with both Changsha Nonferrous Metals and Rio Tinto. The successful execution of this project provides a strong foundation for further collaborations in global mining initiatives.
